mixed media on wood panel

Kioku means 'remembrance, memory, recollection' in Japanese. In 2009 I moved to the island of Barbados after living in Amman, Jordan for a year. Barbados is approximately 900 miles North of the equator and is the Easternmost island in the Caribbean. In contrast to the rocky, sandy and earth-toned landscapes of Jordan, Barbados was the complete opposite; green, lush, humid. On of my favorite beaches was on the Caribbean side and this painting calls to memory sitting on the beach in a gentle rainstorm while watching the calm waters. Incorporated is the Japanese kimono pattern for waves.
