This series synthesizes the contrasts and similarities of tangible memories and visceral experiences gathered from the time I spent living in the Middle East and Caribbean. In 2008 I moved to Amman, Jordan. A year later to the island of Barbados. A relationship began, and then it ended.
The two landscapes and cultures could not have been more different, in so many ways. But after some time, they merged and overlapped in my mind's eye. The expansive desert became the endless sea. The sky continued to change and express itself anew every hour of every day. My internal world mirrored this flux.
The abstracted landscapes of the tropics and desert are combined with textures of memories and geometric patterns found in architecture and textiles in the Middle East and Asia. The paintings feature mixed media including plaster, paint, collage, custom stencils, and oil pastel on wood panels.
